System of a Down tours stadiums with 236 Robe moving lights

System of a Down's stadium tour uses a lighting design initially specified by Rob Sinclair and developed on the road by lighting and show director Matt Arthur. According to Robe, the rig comprises 128 iFORTE, 12 iFORTE LTX and 96 iESPRITE units; iESPRITE LTL fixtures replaced standard iESPRITEs for the European leg. Four automated 18-metre trusses with LED borders carry 18 iFORTE fixtures each.

Behind the LED screen, 96 further units form a 12-by-eight matrix. Nine of the twelve iFORTE LTX units are operated through RoboSpot to follow the three front-line band members; the remaining three light the drummer from programmed positions.

For touring crews, the operational point is not merely the fixture count: a small number of fixture families makes it easier to maintain a consistent showfile and visual response when local suppliers change. Robe credits the photographs in its release to George Pitt and JJ Valchar.
